still waiting for official confirmation of how low the punitive damages are capped in the state of texas (too fucking low, iāve been hearing 750k per defendant) but i also know mark bankston has stated that he is going to fight any such cap to try to get the full amount, so
Apparently (source: NYT) the judge lifted the cap stating that it was proof that the system didnāt trust juries. So heāll pay about $50millions. Such beautiful news, canāt wait for the two others!!
afaik she said she disagreed with the cap, but i donāt know that she has the authority to actually lift it. thereās likely to be a lot more legal wrangling over the specifics of what jones will actually pay above the 4.1 million in damages, but itās still a huge win for the families.

to simplify: churches are forbidden to promote specific political parties or candidates, in order to maintain tax-exempt status. no religious institution is allowed to make explicit political statements, including “this party is bad,” “this party is good,” “you should vote for x,” “you should not vote for x,” or “let’s raise money for x political party or campaign.” all of those things are super illegal! if they’re going to act as a political entity, they need to pay taxes like any other political entity! report their asses!!!!
